Badung Regency (Kabupaten in Balinese) is one of the 8 provinces of Bali, Indonesia, liesto the west of Denspar City.
Located in the southern part of the island, Badung stretches from the Bukit peninsula in the south to Mount Catur in the north. At places in between, it is barely 2 kilometres wide – connecting the peninsula to Bali mainland and at Petang village, where Badung is just a mountain ridge between two river valleys.
Shuttle buses are a great choice for travelling along Bali’s main tourist routes, allowing for faster, more comfortable and convenient rides when compared to riding a bemo (open- air minibus). Companies such as Kura-Kura Bus are fully air-conditioned and offer free Wi- Fi.
Badung Regency covers less than one tenth of the island, but is most densely populated and enjoys a position of grea importance in modern Bali. Once known as Nambangan, named so by I Gusti Ngurah Made Pemecutan in the 18th century. Late in the 18th century, I Gusti Ngurah Made Pemecutan conquered the kingdoms Mengwi and Jembrana and established himself as King of Badung. He was succeeded by Kesiman, who reigned successfully from 1829-1863, partially aligned with the Dutch. Under his aegis the province of Badung soared high in wealth, power and position. However in 1904, with the Chinese coming in, and what ensued subsequently, the king and his court refused to succumb to Chinese -Dutch aligned supremacy, exited the palace gate with pride in full regalia, literally walking to their death at the hands of the Dutch. Their this action is looked up to with great respect, as the honourable thing to do for a ksatria (warrior caste), rather than suffer the shame of life in exile. This event is upheld with reverence to date and commemorated as the ‘Badung puputan’
Badung Regency is the heart of Balinese tourism. Includes some of the most iconic destinations in Bali, such as Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Jimbaran and Uluwatu. Exotic beaches, luxurious hotels, lively nightlife, vibrant local culture and easy transport access makes Badung a must explore destination.

market, however food stalls and kiosks at the night market have set prices. The upscale fashion boutiques and shops in Seminyak and like do not entertain bargaining.
Primarily a local markets are meant for locals, however vendors are used to having international visitors seeking a unique experience and are quite friendly. Signage here is mostly in Indonesian but most sellers understand basic English. Just brace yourself for a lively , bustling local feel. If you’re visiting the local night market, aim to be there at 6:00 pm; if you intend to shop for fresh produce and vees and fruit, 6:00 – 8:00 am is better.
It is a unique experience, take the kids, if toddlers, use a stroller or baby carrier. Do keep in mind that it can get quite crowded. The narrow aisles, fast-moving sellers, and the occasional scooter zooming through might be overwhelming for younger infants.
It is a good idea to get familiarized with the exchange rate to your home currency before you go travel. Bali uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). you’ll be dealing with notes that have lots of zeros.
Plan to carry a mix. Major credit/debit cards are accepted at hotels, larger restaurants, and shops as in all places Bali. However, IDR cash is essential for smaller warungs, local market shopping, entrance fees, drivers and tips.
You must know that tipping culture here is different from Western countries. Not mandatory, but generally expected in appreciation of good service provided.
